- In October 2017 Niranjan was appointed by the Mayor of Washington, DC, Muriel Browser, to serve as the Public Member of the Commission on Asian and Pacific Islander Community Development, Washington, District of Columbia. This is a voluntary and an advisory position, and he is not an employee of D.C. government.

- In November 2005, Niranjan published a research paper on Comparative Assessment of Governance System of Three Cities of the World: London, Johannesburg, and Colombo for Centre for Civil Society, New Delhi, India.
